March 20, 1999

Hanna Shortt (16) Hanna has a broken left leg, a black left eye, a knot on her forehead, and acid burns on both legs from where the battery busted and dripped on her.

Tiffany Styles (15) Tiffany has a broken left leg, a facial cut on her left eyebrow that goes up on her forehead, her left elbow is badly scrapped and cut from the glass, a deep cut on her left knee that goes almost all the way around, and her left foot is broken in two places..

Charissa Wedel (16) Charissa has a fractured pelvis, and both her legs are broken. Her left leg is broken at the top, her right leg is broken near the bottom. She fractured her nose, and has facial cuts. She also and broke her right foot in two places and sprang her right ankle.

All three girls are now home. They are all able to get around with the help of cruches and wheelchairs. Hanna's toes are seperated and look like they will be ok. Her skin graphs took 100% and are healing nicely. They also found out that Tiffany broke her left foot in two places. The doctors said it would heal normaly without surgery. Please continue to pray for them.

Today Hanna went to surgery to do the skin graphs on her foot. The surgery took longer than they expected and she lost a lot of blood. They had to give her a blood transfusion to replace the blood she lost. The doctors couldn't be sure that her toes wouldn't fuse togeather, like a web. Please pray that they will heal normally. She has to stay in the hospital for five more days while the graphts heal. Tiffany has been doing very well. She had the stiches removed from her forhead the other day and the cut is healing nicley. She has been able to walk around with the help of a walker. She still gets tired quickly when she does her pysical therapy and needs prayer for strength. Charissa is doing much better. She was able to get a brace on her broken right leg today. She then was able to take a few steps.

MARCH 26 1999 12:00pm

Today Hanna was able to get into her wheel char and get around on her own. She goes to surgery Monday for skin graphs on her burns. Tiffany was able to sit in a chair this morning for over an hour. Charissa is feeling better after she had her blood transfusion yesterday.

Today Hanna got into a wheel chair and got to visit with Tiffany. Hanna and Tiffany slept well last night and even stayed awake for a little while. Charissa is having a hard time sleeping and she isn't feeling as well.

MARCH 24 1999 9:30am

Today the doctors were going to try to get Hanna and Tiffany to sit up in a chair for a while. Hanna went back to the whirlpool to clean out the burns on her left leg and right foot. This procedure is very painful so please pray for her as she has to do this every day. Charissa is recovering from her surgery yesterday. The doctors said that it went well. Tiffany is getting around pretty good. They are all sore and uncomfortable. They aren't sleeping well due to the fact that they are getting stiff. Please pray that they can get some rest tonight.

MARCH 23, 1999 11:30am

 Today Hanna and Tiffany were allowed to eat solid foods. Hanna has to go to the whirlpool to get her third degree burns cleaned. Tiffany got up and held on to a walker for a few minutes. Charissa has to go for more surgury for the bones that are broken in her foot. They are still in alot of pain.

MARCH 22, 1999 4:30pm

Today the girls were working on getting up. Tiffany was able to stand by her bed for a few minutes. Hanna was in too much pain to get out of bed. Charissa was to have had a blood transfusion to replace the blood she lost. Tiffany and Charissa were allowed to take their neck braces off but Hanna was to have went for more neck x-rays. All the girls are talking and they know what is going on around them.

MARCH 21, 1999

The girls all went to surgery today. They had their bones set and rods put in to keep them in place.

MARCH 20, 1999

Saturday the 20th these three girls from Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ were in a serious car accident. All suffered broken bones and cuts. They were flown by helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center. They are in rooms 4501 (Charissa), 4507 (Tiffany), and 4509 (Hanna). The flight nurse said that if the girls had been wearing their seat belts that they would have been killed. They were coming over a hill when Hanna swerved to miss another car in the middle of the road. She lost control and went off the side of the road. They hit a tree and the truck they were in flipped. It took EMS a hour and a half to get them all out. They were flown one at a time to the hospital.
They need our prayers for their recovery.
